Mission StatementMilitary EMTs
The following was reprinted from The Registry, Spring 2005
The NREMT appreciates the sacrifice made by military EMTs who are deployed on missions to serve and protect our county. We understand that during this time these EMTs may have difficulty completing or submitting their continueing education requiremnts, and we want to be flexible regarding their re-registration deadlines.
Re-registration extension request will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. Deployed EMTs should contact their program liasons regarding their re-registration. The NREMT will work closely with the program liaisons to help ensure that deployed EMTs can support their missions and continue to deliver safe and effective pre-hospital care.
Civiliam EMTs who are deployed in a non-medical capacity will need to contcat the NREMT upon their return from service to discuss their re-registration issues.
Despite being depoyed, it is still important that military medics are current on the latest life saving skills in order to provide their injured comrades with the best possible care. There are many educational opportunities available to most military EMTs in deployed locations. The NREMT encourages military medics to contact their program liaisons for more information on these opportunities.

The following information comes from Mr. Bill Brown, exectutive Director of the National Registry of EMTs.
All military medics have been awarded extensions. The extension begins when they return from a combat area and is for 90 days. So, within 90 days a military medic must meet all requirements and turn his/her re-registration application. He/she will be extended until their next normal registration expiration date. No extensions are granted beyond a one year period...so a March 31, 2004 will go to March 31, 2005 and 05 to 06...but not beyond a year. If a person is late beyond a year...he/she will have to re-enter the NREMT. Please note this is for combat zone EMTs... If just called up to backfill, person must do the CE and report activity to maintain competency... We're working on putting something about this on our website...
